Nothing is more frustrating when the screen of your Android device turns off when you are reading something important on the internet. It just ruins your focus. And it won’t be a surprise if you struggle to regain the same level of attention to finish reading the piece. This always happens to me! I, being subscribed to the Cox bundles find it quite displeasing whenever the screen of my phone goes black as I am reading my eBook.
However, this problem can be resolved. The reason why the screen of your phone goes black is because of the feature called screen timeout. It is added to your devices so it may save battery life. And although it is a cool thing to have, there will be times when you just don’t need this. The screen timeout determines the time for the screen to remain on after you are done using the device. This is usually somewhere between 30 seconds and 1 minute. But you can change this setting. Let’s find out how.
Before the methods for preventing the screens from turning off are discussed, keep in mind that most Android devices can’t do this natively. On the majority of smartphones, you will be allowed to extend the duration of the screen timeout. This can be at most 10 or on some devices 30 minutes. So, the question now is; how can you do this? Well, all you have to do is open the notification panel which you can do by simply dragging the screen down from the top. Now, you are required to tap on the “Gear” icon. This will open the “Settings” menu. Do keep in mind that you might have to swipe the screen down for the second time to reveal the “Gear” icon. This is because you may have a different Android device.
Once you are in “Settings”, tap the “Display” icon. Now depending on the kind of smartphone you are using, the options here are going to vary a little. In some phones, there will be an option of “Advanced” which you can tap to adjust the screen timeout duration. While on the other devices, there will be the option of “Screen Timeout” located in the main “Display” settings. You just have to tap on the option and then choose the time of your choice.
If you wish to keep the screen of your smartphone on all the time then this is possible. Although Android doesn’t give you this option, you can still do it with the help of third-party applications. One fairly good app is called Caffeine. You can get it from the Google Play Store. After you have downloaded the app, access “Quick Settings”. You can do this by simply dragging the screen down. Once you do that, there will be a “Pencil” icon that you would have to tap. This will give you the option to edit “Quick Settings”.
When you do that, you will need to look for a Coffee Mug icon. You will then have to drag this icon to the “Quick Settings” menu. After the icon is there where you want it to be, tap on the back arrow. Now, you will be able to freely use the application. This means that you just have to tap on it and the screen of your smartphone will never go dark unless you want it to by tapping the coffee mug icon again. The application also has a number of options that you can make use of to customize the app according to your preference.
It can get quite tricky to locate the screen timeout option on some Android phones like Xiaomi. This is because the option is not available in “Display”. So, where is it then? Well, you can find it in “Lock Screen” and “Security Screen”. This is how you can get to the option:
Nobody likes it when the screen of the Android device goes black while you are in the midst of doing an important task. It is really infuriating. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with this issue. And you can follow the above-mentioned tips to ensure that the screen of your device never turns off whenever you want it to remain on.
